Virtual Lemonade May 2020Since 2013, the year of E2D’s founding, we have designated May as “E-Lemonade the Digital Divide Month” where we are “Squeeeeezing the Digital Divide!” That first year, 20 families set up lemonade stands in the town of Davidson and raised $3,300 in 3 hours on the first Saturday of May. Cups, powder, water were all the tools necessary to raise that amazing amount of money for E2D. (As we like to say, we don’t believe many lemons were harmed in the making of this lemonade. Over the years, E2D has used May as our primary month for educating students about the social injustices associated with the digital divide. If you don’t have a computer, you can’t do your homework. That makes sense. Everyone can pretty much understand that. During this pandemic, it all is even more evident that the digital divide is holding too many families back. In 2018, over 100 CMS Elementary Schools held “E-Lemonade the Digital Divide” stands and raised more than $15,000. We are delighted to let you know that Google Fiber has returned for the 5th consecutive year as our “E-Lemonade the Digital Divide” primary partner. Many thanks to them for their consistent support and loyalty toward the cause of digital inclusion. Are we going to let Coronavirus interrupt our E2D Lemonade month this year? NO CHANCE! Let’s have some fun with virtual lemonade stands. Let’s plan to learn more about the digital divide and let’s talk about how you and your kids can become part of the solutions. We will be promoting all sorts of fun and interesting “E-Lemonade” initiatives throughout May.
